Weekly Photo Challenge: Refuge

Away from the constant attacks of her little sister Newt.

Ripley takes refuge in a paper bag.

The peace and quiet was short lived as I showed up with a flashing camera, poor thing.

No longer a Taurus

Not that I even really believe in this shit, but….

Those people that know me and do believe (or at least partially believe) in the Zodiac have always told me that I was a perfect example of a Taurus.  So earlier this year when the signs were all mixed up and the 13th sign was added I was moved to Aries.  I have been informed that there is no way this is correct.  I am a stubborn bullheaded Taurus and will be until the day I die.

My Mother shared this little comic from today’s paper with me.  It made me laugh.

Guess I better set the DVR for Oprah.

0 for Sunday

Started off Superbowl Sunday with a Caps shutout of the Penguins. Hope that the Packers can beat up on the Steelers tonight and make Pittsburg 0 for Sunday.

Oh… And this sign applies to EVERYONE at the Phonebooth. I don’t care that you are an ancient woman, it still applies to you. So stay in your seat if you can’t make it through the aisle during a stop in play. Or better yet…just stay home.

Danny Snyder’s Ridiculous Lawsuit Against the City Paper

The Mayor of Munchkinland, Little Danny Snyder, filed a lawsuit against the City Paper on Wednesday.  The lawsuit is seeking $2 million in general damages plus unspecified punitive damages for libel and defamation of character.  This whole situation stems from an article that the City Paper published back in November of last year call The Cranky Redskins Fan’s Guide to Dan Snyder.  This article is an alphabetical listing of the many failures of Dannyboy as the owner of the Skins and is actually a really funny read.

The lawsuit states that”

A tabloid newspaper is not entitled to employ lies, half-truths, innuendo and anti-Semitic imagery to smear, malign, defame, and slander….

After reading this first sentence of the lawsuit I just had to go read that City Paper article again to see where the article went down the road of Antisemitism.  I couldn’t find it.  I had to actually go and search for some explanation and what I found really shocked me.  It was all about the picture at the top of the article.  The picture where someone turned Snyder into the devil is anti-Semitic?  You’re kidding me, right?

I guess that I have been anti-Semitic without knowing it since about the age of 5.  As a kid I remember drawing horns and a van-dyke on tons of pictures.  I did this well before I knew the difference between people’s religions.  So I guess that either I was just born anti-Semitic or this is bullshit.  But according to Rabbi Abraham Cooper, this is:

“inappropriate and unacceptable when a symbol like this – associated with virulent anti-Semitism going back to the Middle Ages, deployed by the genocidal Nazi regime, by Soviet propagandists and even in 2011 by those who still seek to demonize Jews today – is used on the front cover of a publication in our Nation’s Capital against a member of the Jewish community.”

I guess I should apologize for all of my own demonizing of Jews throughout my life.  Sorry about that.  My bad.

What really gets me angry is the letter that Snyder’s attorneys sent to the City Paper that read:

“Mr. Snyder has more than sufficient means to protect his reputation…We presume that defending such litigation would not be a rational strategy for an investment fund such as yours. Indeed, the cost of litigation would presumably quickly outstrip the asset value of the Washington City Paper.”

In other words, Danny has way more money than you.  So you take it back or you will be sorry.  Just makes me sick that anyone with enough money can get absolutely anything they want utilizing our legal system.  Nope, this system isn’t broken beyond belief.

Initially the folks over at the City Paper are standing by their article.  I hope you guys over their stick to your guns.  Don’t back down to Snyder and his attorney goons.

What I really have to wonder is what would happen if the City Paper just paid Snyder the $2 million.  Would paying the $2 million to Danny make everything printed in the article okay now?  If so, might I make the following suggestion:  Take up a collection.

I am pretty sure there are thousands of people in the area that would love nothing more than to contribute.  Seriously.  If you can find me one Redskins fan that is a Dan Snyder supporter I would be surprised.  I know that every person I know, that is a Skins fan, hates the asshole with a passion…including myself.  And if we were given the chance to tell Snyder to “stick it”, how many of us wouldn’t take the opportunity.  I know I would.

I would love to hear about someone from the City Paper walking in to the office of Snyder’s attorneys and slapping down a check, sticking out their tongue, giving them the finger and then turning and walking out.

And then run the story every single week.  After all, you paid for it.

EDIT:  And btw, I admittedly don’t know dick about our legal system.  I am pretty sure what I said above would never work that way in the real world.  So just put up the good fight, City Paper, and take up that collection for the legal fees…I would still be happy to contribute.

Volkswagen Commercial: Darth Noah?

Angus and Noah: Stormtroopers

If you know either of my nephews then you would know that they love dressing up in costumes.  I don’t think I have ever seen two kids who enjoy to dress up and act the part of the superhero (or supervillain) than Angus and Noah.  When someone forwarded me this commercial today I was dying laughing.  Whoever that kid is in the Darth Vader gear was totally channeling Noah.

I have seen Noah get into a costume and completely take on the personality of that character.  If he had a full on Vader costume I am sure this would be him running around the house all day long.  The frustration this kid is displaying when his force powers are not working like they should is spot on Noah.

Enjoy the commercial.

It’s Groundhog Day!

Happy Groundhog Day!

And for only the 16th time since 1887, Punxsutawney Phil didn’t see his shadow.  Early Spring is headed our way.

But with a good part of the country being snowed in by the Blizzard…I can’t help but wonder if tomorrow will be Groundhog Day all over again.

But if you make up tomorrow and find that it is Groundhog Day, here are a couple of tips to make sure your day goes well:

  1. Always drink to world peace.
  2. Don’t laugh if the hot chick says she studied 19th Century French Poetry.
  3. It is never too early for flapjacks.
  4. Watch that first step, it’s a doozy.
  5. Don’t drive angry.

"You want a prediction about the weather, you're asking the wrong Phil. I'll give you a winter prediction: It's gonna be cold, it's gonna be grey, and it's gonna last you for the rest of your life. "
