I know, I know. Another freakin’ post about cats. Whatever has become of me? But I have been totally smitten with Deb’s cats and I am no longer afraid to admit it. Just don’t tell anyone, okay?
Over the last couple months Newt has started growing these wild hairs from behind her ears. They are two little shocks of the whitest hair that frame her face in stark contrast to the rest of her fur.
These two little patches of hair are always sticking out from her head at all angles giving her the look of a mad scientist. In my never-ending obsession with giving things names, I called them her “Einsteins”. The name has stuck and become part of our vernacular even though we have recently found better examples of what the little girl actually looks like.
The first is Doc Brown:
But in the last few weeks we have watched the show Alphas and we have found her perfect doppelgänger:
Dr. Rosen, played so well by David Straithairn, has a head of hair that is the spitting image of Newt. The resemblance is pretty uncanny.
While she definitely looks more like Drs. Rosen and Brown, the name Einstein rolls off the tongue a bit easier so we are sticking with that…for now.
Until we can think of something better.
(oh and btw, watch Alphas. It has been pretty good so far and Gary “Respect the Badge!” Bell is my new favorite superhero)
The Game of Thrones’ first season ends this Sunday. This makes me sad. What can cheer me up?
10 minutes of Joffrey getting the pimphand from Tyrion is what.
Yep, I can watch and listen to this all day long.
Another season of American Idol is now underway and I have to say that I am actually kind of impressed. Going in to this season I, like most people out there, thought that it was just going to suck without Simon. But Steven Tyler and (begrudgingly) J-Lo have actually been pretty good so far. Granted, they are still in the Parade of Crazies part of the show and pretty much anyone could judge the talent at this level….but the new additions have actually been entertaining and Tyler keeps making me laugh so that will keep me interested. But Randy is still Randy. Useless and irrelevant.
But anyway, the point of my post was about a small part of the show last night. There were two of the Idol hopefuls that came to audition together. There have been people who have come in and auditioned together in the past so this was nothing new. What made this one interesting was that these two were ex’s. And from the looks of things the guy was really still into the girl while she had already moved on. You could see that he was still really head over heels for this chick when he looked at her and especially when they sang a little duet together. Poor guy.
It turned out that both of them were actually talented. The guy was so much better than that hussy he called his ex but she wasn’t half bad. They both received the golden ticket to move them on to Hollywood. And this is when it got a bit awkward.
You know how they get the ticket and then burst through the door to be greeted by Metro-Seacrest and the family and friends of the singers…well the female half of this former couple had an entourage waiting for her while her ex didn’t have anyone waiting for him. The gaggle of screaming family all jumped on the chick while the guy was forced to move out of the way and over towards Ryan….all alone. 😦 To make matters worse for him was his ex’s new boyfriend that was waiting to congratulate his woman on making it to Hollywood.
Unfortunately, for the new guy, his girl would be moving on to Hollywood with her ex. You could tell right away that he was just so bitter. He couldn’t even pretend to be happy for her and you could almost feel the jealousy coming through the TV. He didn’t even come over to hug his girl…he just stood behind everyone else and glared. So, so bitter.
As Simon would say, “Sorry.”
When I get behind the wheel of a car I find that just about every other driver on the road is a complete and total moron. I may be right or I may have an anger management issue. I figured I would watch this instructional video and see if there were any pointers in there for me.
Ok, so not really any useful pointers….but it made me laugh.
This week my two nephews were up for a visit. While Noah wanted to pile on hats and costumes…
This afternoon, in between lots of chasing, fighting and the occasional tantrum, the boys were calm enough to sit down and watch a nice little Christmas special. Since the boys were going with Grandma and Grandpa to see the Grinch on Ice and to sit on Santa’s lap we found a great little set of cartoons for the boys to watch:
I figured a nice and wholesome set of cartoon from the 50s would be just that…nice and wholesome. Rudolph’s cartoon was pretty much that as we saw the story of the red nosed outcast and how he became the lead dog on the Christmas Iditarod. But I was not expecting the second cartoon.
I guess I shouldn’t have been shocked seeing as the name of the cartoon had the word Surprise right there in big red letters. But I was not really prepared for the cartoon I was about to watch. The whole premise of the cartoon is that Santa is so tired and overworked that his place up north is just a pig sty. So a group of kids, representing the different peoples around the world, get together and give Santa’s place a good cleaning. From the looks of Santa’s workshop he should have been a candidate from the show Hoarders. But the kids roll up their sleeves and really do a great job of cleaning.
What was so shocking to me was the total racism when it came to depicting the different kids. The little black kid was all Sambo’ed out:
And then they switched over to the Asian characters…anyone have a guess at what they were doing? Yep, the laundry.
I was nervously chuckling while my nephews were just blankly staring at the TV. I was sure glad they are too young to understand why I was laughing.
If you want to order your own DVD to have this treasure for yourself you can order one for under $10 from Amazon by clicking here.
Or you can just stream it from Netflix like we did.
Merry Christmas everyone.
Caps are the best team in the NHL. Skins suck. Wizards Suck. Nats Suck. Can you guess which of these teams is the hardest to find on TV?
Last night I was fuming at right around 6:59pm. When I sat down to watch the Capitals and turned on our local Comcast Sportnet channel only to find that the Wizards were being broadcast instead of the Caps. My first thought was that the game must be on Versus tonight so I tuned into Versus only to find that the game being shown there was the Bruins vs Rangers game.
WTF? Where was the Caps game being shown? I started trying to navigate through the FIOS guide and gave up after a few minutes of trying to find the game anywhere on that clusterfuck (I really do hate the way that “guide” works). I tried to use my TV Guide app on my phone…no luck there. I then grabbed the Post to take a look there…OK, I found that the game was on something called Comcast SportsnetPlus. WTF is that? It isn’t listed anywhere on any guide. It is like some made-up channel that doesn’t exist. Was this some kind of joke?
After another 5 minutes of just scanning through channel after channel I finally find the game. FINALLY. So I kick back with my drink in hand and settle in to watch the game when I realize that the game, while being broadcast on an HD channel, is not in HD. Again, WTF? Trying to watch any hockey game on Comcast that isn’t in TV is like trying to watch the game through a haze. It is like they spread Vaseline on the lens of every camera to make the game some kind of visual challenge.
Once again, being a Caps fan in this town just means you want to punch someone from Comcast right in the dick. Last night was just one more night of showing the fans where they rank in the eyes of our local Sportsnet channel. The only team in town with any skill is relegated to the Where’s Waldo channel while the Wall-less suckhole Wizards get top billing…again. So those people that enjoy watching Thugball were lucky enough to see the Wiz get blown out by 31 points in beautiful High Definition. That is right, 31 points. I guess the Wiz wanted to prove they could almost be as embarrassing as the Redskins.
Meanwhile, over on the Non-HD, Blurry-as-Fuck “Plus” Channel the Capitals win yet another game in front of yet another sold out home arena to improve to 10-1 on home ice. Oh and the Caps also just added a couple more points last night to improve on their league leading point total. The hottest ticket in town is a ticket to a Caps game and yet the team still gets no respect when it comes to broadcast air time.
So the best team in the NHL and the only winning franchise in town has to take the backseat to the bottom feeding Wizards…again. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised when this happens anymore but I really did think that the winning ways of the Caps would change the dynamic here in town. I guess the DC metro is just happier watching a couple of teams of overpaid losers.
Oh well at least the Winter Classic is only a little more than a month away. (BTW, the video on that link is awesome)
